66 Degrés SUD - CYCLO 2024
context
Finding My Place In The World Of Sport Events
66 Degrés Sud is an annual cycling race in the Perpignan region, attracting both amateur and professional riders all around Europe. The event is known for its challenging routes and unpredictable weather, combining sport, endurance, and outdoor adventure. The 2024 edition was particularly demanding due to heavy rain and dense fog, which increased safety risks and required heightened coordination among all participants and teams.
To tackle the challenge: be reactive
I first became involved with 66 Degrés Sud during an internship in Perpignan, assisting with pre-event preparations and logistics. I returned specifically for the race day to participate in on-site organization. My responsibilities included mediating between cyclists, support vehicles, and emergency services, ensuring safety and smooth communication throughout the course. With the adverse weather conditions, I managed multiple urgent requests and coordinated responses to incidents as they arose. This experience strengthened my crisis management and organizational skills under high-pressure conditions. I learned to prioritize safety, communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders, and respond quickly to unexpected situations. Participating in 66 Degrés Sud also gave me a deeper appreciation for teamwork, attention to detail, and the importance of adaptability when managing complex, real-time operations during a live event.
